2014 LECTURE SERIES – Featuring Contemporary Western art with a Historical Twist
July 12 & 17, 2014 at 2 PM: CHARLES RUSSELL RECORDS MONTANA IN THE LATE 1800’S – Russell’s knack for observation of the Montana cowboy’s life was honed from personal experience as one of those cowboys. The story of how the museum acquired “The Scouts” in 1978 is equally fascinating. We will discuss both during the program.
August 16 & 21, 2014 at 2 PM: HISTORIC MOVIES AND ART of ARNOLD FREIBURG – The artist and his audience is the unstated theme of anyone who views the artistic work on display in the museum. “Expert Criticism” is an example of the accuracy of historic research applied to paintings of Royal Canadian Mounted Police by artist, Freiburg. One of the museum’s favorite paintings has a story unlike any other.
