Dawn Emerson grew up on the east coast in Marblehead, Massachusetts, and graduated from Brown University in 1977 with a BA in English and a minor in art. After a career in the Boston area as a graphic designer, she moved in 1992 to the high desert plateau of Central Oregon with her husband and two children. She now lives in Terrebonne, Oregon and is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America and the Pastel Society of the West Coast since 1997. She conducts pastel and drawing workshops around the country and teaches drawing at Central Oregon Community College. Her work is in many fine private collections, and she is currently represented by the Mockingbird Gallery in Bend.
Her medium is primarily pastel, and is often combined with other media such as gauche, acrylic, and charcoal. Whatever the subject, the goal is to compress time and place by combining abstract elements with realistic subjects. Her goal is to weave together marks, texture, and color to create an image that is alive with mystery, movement, and energy.
